What is Copy editing?

Copy editing improves the writing so that it flows smoothly, makes sense to the intended audience and conforms to the style required.

It also includes proofreading.

It's hard difficult to resist the urge temptation to change alter someone else's writing

Copy editing includes checking:

• Sentence structure and phrasing
• Consistency and appropriateness of language
• Layout of headings, paragraphs and quotes
• Clarity and style for the intended audience
• Tenses
• Repetition and redundancy
• Excessive passive voice
• Jargon, clichés and tautologies
• Title pages and chapter titles
• References and citations
